By default, access to certain websites that contain content deemed as adult content is blocked. You can remove this block by enabling the 'Adult content' facility from your SIM settings page.
Mobile Content and The BBFC Mobile Classification Framework
In July 2013, UK mobile network operators appointed the BBFC to provide the classification framework they use to self-regulate commercial website content accessed via mobile internet networks.
The BBFC Mobile Classification Framework enables mobile operators to restrict access to commercial content that is unsuitable for people under the age of 18.
It is applied by the mobile networks to restrict access by children using mobile internet services to any website that would be classified 18 under the framework. We review any websites that tell us they are being over-blocked by a network or any websites still available to children that we are told should be behind filters.
The Mobile Classification Framework is a living document that we update regularly to reflect evolving public attitudes and societal concerns identified through our research.
This self-regulatory partnership between the mobile operators and the BBFC brings trusted, transparent and consistent BBFC standards to bear on mobile content, protecting children by restricting adult content to adults only.
In addition, some sites are governed by a more strict access framework. This includes restrictions for mobile access to websites that are deemed unsuitable for children under 12. You can find full details here: https://www.bbfc.co.uk/about-classification/mobile-content/ee.

You may be someone who uses their mobile to check the odd email or to browse a webpage once in a while, or you may use it to download lots of games, music and videos. Regardless, if you are unsure of how much internet data you are likely to use, this guide may help.
The digital information you download on your phone is measured in kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB) and gigabytes (GB). 1KB is 1024 characters of text/data. As a general rule, 1024KB make up 1MB, and 1024MB make up 1GB.
If you are a low data user – unlikely to use your internet for more than an hour a day and rarely downloading content – then you will rarely use more than 100MB each month. If you download emails daily to your phone, spend a fair bit of time browsing the internet and download a few games or apps each month, then you should find that 500MB is more than enough each month.
If you are a very low user you may see a daily charge of 1p for data used, even when mobile data is turned off on your phone. Your phone's firmware may contact the network to update and synchronise it's data settings. This could happen, e.g. whenever you turn your phone on. This is a few kilobytes, but if you haven't used any more data that day it still means a rounding up to the 1p charge. In any other case this small amount of data will be added on to your other data usage that day.

If you send and receive emails daily, often with attachments; watch videos online several times a week and are likely to download a lot of apps and games, as well as music for your phone; and browse the internet for several hours daily, then you are likely to use 1GB or more of data every month.

Yes, a 1pMobile SIM will allow you to share your phone's 4G & 5G data connection. However, you will need to check with your handset manufacturer to confirm that your phone supports tethering. At our standard rate, you will be charged 1p per each MB of data used whilst tethering. Alternatively, you can use data included in one of our 30-day data boosts.
If you need to use the Internet when abroad (known as roaming) this will be possible if roaming is enabled in your account. Roaming is enabled for all our customers as default. You may need to enable roaming data on your phone settings.
If you find that you can make calls and text messages but not connect to the internet you may need to add an APN with our settings. Please see our APN (Access Point Name) details below and consult your phone manual on how to do this. APN details page.
In the EU and EEA the tariff is the same as in the UK (1p per MB). Please check our tariff page for all tariffs before you travel.
If you will be roaming outside of the EU and EEA there will be significantly higher tariffs for data usage. Data Boosts will not work outside of the EU.
When you are abroad please be aware that if your phone is set to automatically select a network it may connect across a country's border. This could incur greater charges on a foreign tariff. Please check if you are travelling near to a country's border. In this likelihood, we recommend you set your phone to manually connect to networks; so that you can check before connecting. The phone and operating systems (iOS or Android) still have some data requirements that cannot be disabled in the user settings. These are features like 'Find-my-phone' and 'App/Play store' verification.
Some simple/feature phones also have some data services, (and some only in their operating system and firmware), that are used to check for updates and network registration.
If you wish to disable mobile data completely then you can do so in your 1pMobile account area in the Network Settings. However, this may prevent the operating system's features from working correctly.

If you have an older iPhone (or one that was originally locked to a network), which does not have an option to update its APN settings, use the link below to download the APN configuration file.
Your iPhone needs to be connected to Wi-Fi (WiFi) and either click the link below or type it into your Safari browser.
You need to download it to your phone and it will automatically update the APN. Viewing it inside your email will not work, you need to download it, in your Safari browser.

iPhone users
Please make sure that your phone is fully authorised with iTunes/iCloud. If the activation and authentication to these services and does not compete successfully then your phone will continue to try and complete the authentication even with mobile data turned off in the handset.
Sony users
The Sony suite requires the phone to be authenticated and will attempt to do so every time a new SIM is inserted in the phone. Please ensure that this authentication has completed as the phone will keep trying until successful.
Your phone is using data in the background, whether it is to update apps, provide you with weather reports, positioning and tracking for maps etc. There are so many data based services in smartphones that use data.
If you do not wish to use any data then please disable / uninstall these apps on your phone, or turn off mobile data in your phone settings. It is also possible to turn off mobile data in your account - at network level - but this may prevent your phone from operating correctly. On some devices it is also possible to prevent Apps from updating over mobile data and will only do so over WiFi - please check you phone manual for instructions.
When a connection is logged on a mobile network, the user is verified in three stages. It logs the unique 20-digit SIM card number, the unique 15-digit IMEI (international mobile equipment identity of your phone or mobile device) number and the unique IMSI (international mobile subscriber identity - hard coded on the SIM chip) number. The evidence we have examined shows the usage on your handset was logged and recorded through the mobile network. If this was not the case and your phone was connected to Wi-Fi (WiFi), there would be no evidence of any data connection via the 1pMobile network. In view of this, we are unable to dispute the charges on your account.
For security reasons, we are unable to clarify how the data was used, but when the mobile data is switched on via your device and you have the correct APN settings for your provider, your phone is able to connect to the mobile network for data automatically. Many smartphones do provide a breakdown on how data is used, by which apps and features, in the settings area.
Smart phones by their very nature are setup to be constantly connected to the internet, and many apps and software on the phone would try to connect automatically for updates. Many customers believe that when at home the phone should have been connected to Wi-Fi, and they had no intention of using your credit to access the internet via the mobile network at that time. Although you may not have intended to access data on your phone in this way at the time, the evidence and logging, as stated above, suggests the phone was connected to the mobile network, and the usage and associated charges would therefore be valid.
The NHS has launched it's COVID-19 app alongside national and local contact tracing, to help control coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission.
The app include contact tracing using Bluetooth, risk alerts based on postcode district, QR check-in at venues, symptom checker and test booking
The law now requires businesses to display the official NHS QR code posters from today so people can check-in at different premises with the app
Downloading the app will use up approximately 5.6MB of data for the Android and 3.1MB for the Apple. We recommend that you download using Wi-Fi.
When using the app on mobile data, data usage within the app will be will NOT be charged by 1pMobile, but clicking on links to webpages outside the app might use some data.
